Chapter 9

First 10 verses give the Lord thanks for his help to his people, and for his intervention against their enemies.

Through 16 are praises from David for the things God did for him.  Then a Selah.

Through 20 is a plea for God to judge the nations in favor of the needy and the poor.  For God to establish his power over men.

2025 - This interesting verse:

12 For He who requires blood remembers them; He does not forget the cry of the afflicted. [Psa 9:12 NASB95].  Only blood can appease God.  We ought to consider this not just a requirement but an attribute of His divine character.

2025 - Here is how God works:

12 For He who requires blood remembers them; He does not forget the cry of the afflicted. ... 15 The nations have sunk down in the pit which they have made; In the net which they hid, their own foot has been caught. 16 The LORD has made Himself known; He has executed judgment. In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared. Higgaion Selah. [Psa 9:12, 15-16 NASB95].

This is how God so often made Israel victorious over far superior armies.  He didn't give Israel's soldiers super powers, lest they credit themselves for the victory.  Instead, He often turned opposing armies against themselves, or filled them with unquenchable fear, or sent disease among them to weaken them.  These verses not only say God does that but in the phrase "The LORD has made Himself known" He says this is how we can know that He intervened for us.  It is a clear and readable sign that God was taking direct action against our enemies. 

This is what we should be praying!  Not so much that our enemies be defeated but that God would ensnare them in their own nets.  I cannot help but relate this to the growing recognition here and in Europe that those in charge - who have become enemies to their own people - look increasingly ridiculous to even the least observant, and their power seems to wane on a daily basis.  If we prayed this way more, perhaps their fall would even accelerate.
