The Bible's References to Creation
Claims to Creation
There are many many places in the Bible where God says He created the world. If He did not, I think the whole Bible fails as a Holy Book.
Why is this important?
Because those who don't believe in God MUST have evolution as a cornerstone of their unbelief. If they allow the Bible to set the age of the earth at some 7-15,000 years or so, then there can be no explanation for plants and animals other than creation. There's just not enough time in 15,000 years to allow for it. So to undermine creation it is necessary to gain more time. This is done by making the universe 4.5 billion years old. This is so much time that it is incomprehensible to the human mind (just like God's infinity is) so they can claim anything at all that they want to claim, with no way at all to test it or prove it, or disprove it. It is the religion of unbelief, and it rests on the same foundation as God...almost. 4.5 billion is for all intents and purposes an infinity of time. We have turned time itself into a god, worshiping the created instead of the creator. With enough time, anything is possible. With God, anything is possible. Time is a false god, a false religion, set up in competition with the One True God. This is not random. This is a strategy. Even this is evidence of creation.
Below are references I have noted in my reading. In each one, God claims to be the creator or creation is referred to as a creation of God.
1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. [Gen 1:1 ESV] Written by Moses.
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. [Exo 20:11 ESV] Written by Moses.
19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; 20 by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. [Pro 3:19-20 ESV] Written by Solomon.
It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.'"
Exodus 31:17 ESV
God tells Moses about creation. Wants it remembered that He did it in seven days.
When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth, before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world. When he established the heavens, I was there; when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
Proverbs 8:24-29 ESV
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. [Psa 90:2 ESV]
1 The words of Agur son of Jakeh. The oracle. The man declares, I am weary, O God; I am weary, O God, and worn out. ...
4 Who has ascended to heaven and come down? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name? Surely you know! [Pro 30:1, 4 ESV]
[Psa 8:3-4 ESV] 3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?
This one is a Psalm of David.
25 Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. 26 They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, 27 but you are the same, and your years have no end. [Psa 102:25-27 ESV]
This next is all from Psalm 104, written by David. He summarizes the six days of creation.
Per MSB, these verses are about the first two days:
5 He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved. 6 You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. 7 At your rebuke they fled; at the sound of your thunder they took to flight. 8 The mountains rose, the valleys sank down to the place that you appointed for them. 9 You set a boundary that they may not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth. [Psa 104:5-9 ESV]
There was earth first, created by God, and then he covered it completely with water...as it was in Noah's flood. Then earth came up out of the water, and boundaries were set - presumably for water, mountains, and valleys all - so that the approximate land area of earth no longer changes.
vvs 10-18, The third day. Fresh water, so that animals and plants could be sustained.
vvs 19-23, the fourth day. Active times for predatory animals contrasted with the work time of men. God made it this way to minimize contact between them? (Before or after the flood?) These verses talk about the sun and moon also.
vvs 24-26, the fifth day.
vvs 27-30, the sixth day...but man is not mentioned here.
I expect one could make a pretty long study of Psa 104 and pull out a lot more information. It would be interesting to see if David, as a prophet, is filling in some gaps in the creation story, and/or giving us new information, or just additional information about what is already in Genesis.
The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew.
Proverbs 3:19-20 ESV
These seem to be a reference to the flood. That's the only time I know of when the deeps broke open.
This also seems to say that the earth and heavens are ordered by wisdom and knowledge. God did not create chaos and randomness but rules and order and predictability.
6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. [Psa 33:6-9 ESV] of David.
5 to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever; 6 to him who spread out the earth above the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever; 7 to him who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever; 8 the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever; 9 the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever; [Psa 136:5-9 ESV]
This Psalm is not directly attributed at the beginning of the chapter, but I believe it was the song used at the dedication of Solomon's Temple in 1 Kings 8 and 2 Chron 6, which I believe is a Psalm of David.
Isaiah 40:12 and following. Many claims to creation by God and by Him only. Awesome language used. God asking "Who will ask me any quesiton???" "who can do as I have done?" This verse kind of summarizes it all:
28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. [Isa 40:28 ESV]
24 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself, [Isa 44:24 ESV]
18 For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): "I am the LORD, and there is no other. [Isa 45:18 ESV]
22 Do you not fear me? declares the LORD. Do you not tremble before me? I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it. [Jer 5:22 ESV]
Another passage where God says He created it all. Jeremiah is another who claims it.
17 'Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. [Jer 32:17 ESV]
1 The oracle of the word of the LORD concerning Israel: Thus declares the LORD, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man within him: [Zec 12:1 ESV]
6 "You are the LORD, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships you. [Neh 9:6 ESV]
